About this event

Necessary Animals present an evening of music, film, spoken word and improvisation. Our special guests include Lucy Brennan Shiel, James Joyce scholar and spoken word and visual artist, Ingvild Syntropia, actor and performer, Laurens Price-Nowak and Bill John Harpum, who will improvise on cello and viola, and artist and performer Holly Finch.

We will perform material from our two latest albums - Animalia, an album of songs written and recorded during lockdown and inspired by the global pandemic, and Playboy of the Western Word, a sequence of improvised treatments of texts from Ulysses by James Joyce, read by Lucy Brennan Shiel.

We will also show a selection of short films made by our creative director Keith Rodway.

If the May weather is fine we will also feature pop-up performances in the spacious surroundings of The Beacon, Hastings' most chilled venue!

Doors open at 6pm, and food will be available. The venue is fully licensed, and has disabled access.
